Hiking in Stenfjällen in Oldflån-Ansättens nature reserve

I start my hike from Nedre Lill-Stensjön and I think the clock must have been around midnight in Oldflån-Ansättens nature reserve.

I follow a little gravelled road in a few kilometer to Stor-Stensjön. When I arrive to the lake there where strong winds and the waves crashing into the rocky shoreline. Felt quite missabrle as I stand on the rocky shoreline in the strong winds in the darkness in middle of the night all on my own. I forgot to fill up my bootle down in the valley. Therefore I was quite thirsty and I need to find a little stream. I head out into the unknown, I struggle throw the dense vegetation along the shoreline. Before I can go to bed I need to find two things, first I need to find a stream and then I need to find a flat ground for my tent. As I struggle throw mountain birch and rocky ground I couldn’t find any place with flat ground for my tent.

The time fly by and I think the clock must have been around 2 or 3 am before I find a little stream, I was so thankful for that. I climb up on a little hill and between a few birches I succeeded to pitch my tent. It didn’t take long before I fall a sleep.

I found a trail to follow to Långvattnet

I wake up to a nice morning and I get out of my tent and prepare my breakfast. After a few kilometer in dense vegetation I manage to find a trail that I plan to follow future down into the valley. But it was not a well-trodden trail, more like a marks on the stones and trees. Afterward my hike last weekend My heel hurts a bit, but it works fine when I step down my heel straight down and not on the side. After a long breakfast and a lot of coffee I continue my hike throw mires and small woodland lakes, surrounded with beautiful mountains. I get better and better feeling for this place as future into the valley I walk.

Windy and mosquito free

Soon I come out to the lake Långvattnet and a fresh breeze blow over the lake. As a result of the wind all the mosquitoes were gone, thats great. At the shoreline I cook my lunch and some coffee.

Time to hike higher up in the mountains

Afterward a long break I leave the valley behind and hike up on the mountain Stenfjället. From there I got a wonderful view over the valley and mountains. Spotted a Golden Eagle that hovered over a mountain top in distance. Gorgeous moment.

Got some company

As I stand there and take my photos I was observed by a couple of reindeers. We stand looking at each other before the reindeers walk away over the mountains.

Follow the mountain valley

I follow a small valley back to my starting point. I walk through small pounds and mires. But there isn’t a lot of water streams.

Coffee time

Deeper into the valley I find a little stream where I stop by and enjoy some coffee and some cookies.

Pitch the tent in strong wind

Later this afternoon I got to practice to pitch my tent in strong wind. Really good thing to practice. After I have pitch my tent I get som rest and some pretty strong winds blow on my tent. I spend some time to enjoy some reading from my favorite book from Bernhard Nordh.

Hike to the top of Stensjöfjället

Later this evening I hike up on Stensjöfjället. When I reach to the top it starts rain and some mist role in so I hurry back to my campsite and boil a warm cup of chocolate.

Afterward a Windy and rainy night

After a rainy and quite windy night I wake up to a really nice morning. The sun shine from a clear blue sky. I enjoy a long breakfast and a lot of coffee.

Hiking back through the stony forest

On my way back to the car I came across a really stony terrain. Stenfjällen really do a good reason for the name.

To summarize I’m really happy with the hike, I got a lovely mix of weather and landscape.
